Hongwei Wang, Dean, Professor

Hongwei Wang, Dean, Professor

Dr. Wang received his B.S. degree in Biological Sciences & Biotechnology from Tsinghua University in Beijing, China in 1996. He did his thesis work under the supervision of Sen-Fang Sui, earning a Ph.D. degree from Tsinghua University in 2001. Subsequently, he worked as postdoctoral fellow under the supervision of Eva Nogales at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. From 2006-2008, he was a research scientist at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. Before joining Tsinghua University, he was an assistant professor of Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry at Yale University. Professor Wang’s group is interested in elucidating the architecture and mechanism of macromolecular complexes and assemblies using cryo-electron microscopy in combination with biochemical, biophysical and cellular methods. More specifically, his lab currently focuses on (1) methodology development for more efficient and high resolution cryo-electron microscopy, (2) the coordination mechanisms of cytoskeleton and membrane systems, and (3) the mechanism and regulations of nucleic acid quality control. He was appointed as dean of School of Life Sciences, Tsinghua University in 2016.
